Council decision on Nanaimo Recycling Exchange plan

You may have already heard the bad news. On Monday July 9th, during an in-camera session, Nanaimo City Council voted “not to provide an annual operating grant to the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange (NRE) to cover the debt servicing of a mortgage for the construction of a new facility as well as interim funding for one year’s operation.”

This is obviously a disappointing decision for everyone involved with the Vote Yes NRE campaign, and for the many thousands of members of the community who relied on the Nanaimo Recycling Exchange.

We have been informed that the board of directors of the NRE will be meeting to decide how to proceed and we will relay updates as we receive them.
